We are kicking off the weekend with this beautiful and festive Moana inspired Luau Party submitted by Rose of Cake Party DIY! It’s the perfect birthday theme if you have a little princess who is fierce and determined like Moana, the most amazing Disney Princess!
As told by Rose…
She is fierce, brave, determined and doesn’t need a prince to be happy! Sounds like Beyonce right?… but it’s Moana of Montunui!!! Any mom wants their daughter to be Moana! This is my favorite Disney movie, and needless to say, I was very excited to go to work on it. It was my niece’s 3rd birthday party, who, of course, loves Moana, and what better theme for a pool party than a Moana inspired Luau? Set the tone for the birthday party by deciding on the electronic birthday invitation and get the guests excited to attend the event.
My sister wanted a touch of blue on the décor, so doing the cake in ombre blue buttercream representing the sea, which is also very important in the story, was the answer. I made the sail using colored candy chips. The characters are toys and the other cake décor pieces are made of fondant. The turquoise blue also looked great on the dessert table as a table cover, and provided great contrast for the bright flowers, tropical fresh fruit and natural materials. I already had a silk monstera leaf and the shells for the tropical leaf arrangement. I made sure to use natural colors and textures as much as I could. The grass skirt, the bamboo serving dish, the wooden boxes, the shells, the table runner, the pineapple and coconut all provided great texture.
There is so much you can do for a Moana inspired party! It’s hard to choose one or two design elements to focus on. I’ve seen Moana parties focused on the sea, the mountains and Tafiti, Maui or Tamatoa, the shiny hermit crab. My sister and I got inspired by the colorful flowers throughout the movie, especially the plumeria. Nancy from Nancy’s Creations created the most fabulous tropical paper flower garland, which looked amazing against the emerald green leaf backdrop. I fell in love with these flowers! I definitely wanted to include the heart of Tafiti as well because it’s so unique to the movie. So I made Heart of Tafiti inspired chocolate covered Oreos and rice krispies treats. I also made the plumerias out of fondant to decorate the treats.
My sister got crafty with the Kakamora inspired coconut favors. She bought the plastic coconut cups and cut and pasted the faces with felt material and the hot glue gun. She did an amazing job! She ordered the character letters from an Etsy shop, which are super cute.
On the pool towel rack, we hung the rest of the favors, grass skirts and leis for everyone! For the rest of the menu we made sure to include a turquoise blue punch and fresh fruit.
I hope this adorable party inspired you to plan a Moana inspired birthday party for your fierce princess! Thank you so much Rose for your submission!
