Calling all Art lovers! Teaching Art to Pre-K – 5th grade inspired so many fun projects this year. This Matisse inspired Easter Egg Gift Idea might be one of my favorite Spring projects to date. And the fact it is such an easy project to create, it is a big plus! Ready to create your own?
How to Create your Own Matisse Inspired Easter Egg
For this Matisse inspired Easter Egg project you will need:
- Sticker paper
- Cutting mat
- Ink jet printer
- Cutting machine *I used my Cricut JoyXtra.
I created my Matisse shape Cut Outs in Cricut Design Space. And since Matisse was all about bold colors, I selected pretty vivid colors for my project.
My images didn’t have an offset so I had create one (notice the black outlines?) To create an offset, I selected the images and clicked offset from the top menu. I then adjusted the distance and clicked apply. The last step was to select all the layers and flatten (lower right panel) them. See this other tutorial on how to create your own stickers using Cricut JoyXtra.
I selected the cutting machine in the top right hand corner, then I clicked make it. It was time to print my file.
Once the printing was completed, I placed my printed sticker sheet on the cutting mat and loaded my cutting machine. I made sure to select the type of material I was using (Printable Sticker Paper). My shapes were ready to be cut!
Once my file was cut, I gently peeled my cutting mat from the sticker paper. It was time to decorate my giant plastic egg with all the beautiful Matisse shapes!

How fun does the Easter egg look?

A Matisse themed Easter egg calls for fun art supplies, such as watercolors, paint brushes, oils pastels, crayons, paint palette and more.
This Matisse Easter gift idea is a great departure from the usual Easter egg stuffers, such as chocolate eggs, bubbles, stickers, and stuffed bunnies. It makes the perfect gift idea for a child or adult who loves Art.

I love this so much! What a genius idea to decorate an egg inspired by an artist – and then fill it with art-related items! I’ve never been super into Easter, but this is one Easter gift I would be VERY happy to receive 🙌 Loving all the colours too!
Indya, it makes me so happy to hear that. Thank you for stopping by.❤️ Andressa
