These Mexican fritters are not the healthiest, but they are SO delicious! Make some and enjoy them with no guilt. It’s Fiesta Time after all!
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 cup water
- 2 1/2 tbsp sugar
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 3/4 cup wholewheat flour
- 1/4 cup regular flour
- 2 quarts oil for frying
TO GARNISH:
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1 tsp cinammon
DIRECTIONS:
- In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the water, sugar, salt and butter. Bring to a boil and remove from heat. Stir in flour until mixture forms a ball.
- Heat oil for frying in deep-fryer or deep skillet to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Pipe strips of dough into hot oil using a pastry bag (Note: I piped mine on a piece of wax paper and let them harden a little). Fry until golden; drain on paper towels.
- Combine 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon. Roll drained churros in cinnamon and sugar mixture.
Enjoy these churros by dipping them in caramel sauce. Yum!
