Hello, friends!
Sharing some easy and sweet Spring ideas you can use to entertain the little ones! My little boy who has a big sweet tooth inspired this post. He is home for Spring Break and of course he keeps begging to eat sweets all.day.long. He really thinks I should incorporate chocolate into his breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. I am not kidding! He has a love for anything that has chocolate chips. I was trying to explain to him, chocolate is a BIG treat at this house even though mommy works with sweets every day!
I was at the supermarket the other day and saw the most adorable yellow chicks marshmallows and I thought I could surprise my boy with some fun hot cocoa. We both agreed he can have something sweet every day until Spring break ends, but something small. “Ok, mommy! I promise!” (Yeah, right!)
The Hot Cocoa Recipe I used is from Epicurous and if you are into hot chocolate, you will love it! I adapted it by adding some Cadbury Creme Egg because it was not creamy and sweet enough you know? (*smiles)
I placed mini chocolate eggs and the mini yellow chick marshmallows in little nests I purchased at one of my local Craft store for one of my past Spring styled shoots. I had these fun mini chalkboard signs and I thought it would be cute to incorporate them as well! My son was excited to see they only cost 5 cents each. Too cute!
I added a yellow chick to each mug. Don’t they look adorable?
Now, the yummy recipe! I poured some hot chocolate in each mug and added some water as my son doesn’t really need extra creamy chocolate!
Simple Hot Cocoa for One
Adapted from Epicurous
Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 to 2 tablespoons sugar (depending on how sweet you like it)
- Pinch of salt
- 1 cup milk or any combination of milk, half-and-half, or cream
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 Cadbury creme egg for each mug *optional Note: You can skip adding the sugar if you wish
- Your favorite marshmallows
Preparation:
Whisk together the cocoa, sugar, salt, and about 2 tablespoons milk in a small saucepan over medium-low heat until cocoa and sugar are dissolved. Whisk in the rest of the milk and heat it over medium heat, whisking occasionally, until it is hot. Stir in the vanilla and serve. Add 1/2 Cadbury creme egg, stir until is melted. Add marshmallows of your choice!
You can let the kids add the creme egg and marshmallows! They have some much fun doing that!
And if you are using this idea for a little party, you can fill mini bags with marshmallows and 1 chocolate cream egg for each kid! Add a mini spoon and our printable tag to make it more fun!
