Hello, friends!
My little boy started his holiday break and we have been trying to bake, decorate or craft something every day. We have baked thumbprint cookies. We have made Christmas ornaments and yesterday, we decided to make gingerbread play dough. It was perfect! The days have been snowy, cold and wet. He played with his baby sister for almost 2 hours and they absolutely loved it!
If you are looking for last minute holiday gifts for your kid’s class or just want to keep the kids entertained during the Christmas break, this homemade gingerbread play dough recipe via Sweet Sugar Belle is so fun and it’s done in no time!
Here’s what you will need:
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- 1/2 cup salt
- 2 tsp. cream of tartar
- 1 tbsp. ground cinnamon
- 2 tsp. ground ginger
- 1 tsp. ground nutmeg
- 1 tsp. ground cloves
- 2 tbsp. vegetable oil
- 1 cup water
- 1 tsp orange extract {optional}
INSTRUCTIONS:
- In a medium saucepan whisk together dry ingredients. Next mix in the water, oil, and orange extract and stir until a thick batter is formed. Cook the mixture over low/medium heat until a thick dough forms. Turn out onto parchment paper and knead until smooth. Makes about 2 cups of dough.
If you would like to put together holiday gifts for family and friends, place the dough in mini jars and add a festive touch by sprucing them up with mini Christmas bulbs and baker’s twine.
You can easily put together a fun play dough kit by adding a jar of play dough, a cookie cutter and a mini rolling pin. Finish the look with our printable tags.

Cute idea! Where did you find the mini rolling pins?
I got them at Hobby Lobby! 🙂
